Surveying Unleashed 2026: Supporting young Surveying Careers

It’s easy for us to forget that while we know how great it is to pursue surveying a career, it’s not at the tip of every career advisor’s tongue! Along with Surveying Careers we’re helping to change that. A few weeks ago, the CMS Surveyors team had the privilege of taking part in Surveying Unleashed 2026 at Strathfield Golf Club – and it was fantastic to see so many students engaging with the industry first hand.

The event gave students the opportunity to explore the practical side of surveying through hands-on demonstrations and workshops covering laser scanning, UAV/drone technology, GPS and satellite positioning, cadastral surveying and spatial technology. Chris Larmour, our technical director, and Allan Steven, our drone pilot enjoyed sharing how surveyors help shape the built environment and support projects across construction, infrastructure and development.

Despite the huge opportunities available, Surveying isn’t a career that many students are exposed to during their school years. With its exciting mix of technology, problem solving, outdoor work, design, mapping and collaboration it’s an industry with strong long-term career opportunities and multiple entry pathways, including work experience, traineeships, TAFE, university and on the job learning.

At CMS Surveyors, we’re passionate about helping the next generation discover the opportunities available within the surveying profession and supporting initiatives that connect students with industry.

A big thank you to Surveying Careers NSW, the organisers, sponsors, schools, teachers and students who made the day such a success. We’re proud to continue supporting programs that help put surveying in front of young people and showcase the value our beloved profession.
